IRON MOUNTAIN – Four local artists have been accepted into the annual ArtPrize competition in Grand Rapids this year.
Darlene Strand of Iron Mountain will have her graphite pieces entitled “Great Lakes Heritage Fishing” displayed in the Downtown Market. Joan Game of Iron Mountain will display her mixed media entry “Birds, Bees & Blossoms” at the Holiday Inn Grand Rapids Downtown.
Phyllis Carlson of Quinnesec entered her photo “Window to the Soul” and Toni Mendina of Iron Mountain entered a colored pencil/fabric piece entitled “and on her horse she flies,” both of which will be part of the U.P. Pavilion at DeVos Place.
This is first time Upper Peninsula artists accepted into ArtPrize will have the opportunity to showcase their works together in one space at the DeVos Place convention center. More than 70 U.P. artists submitted entries, but only 23 were chosen.
